A Grammy Wrap-Up

I know, I know. Does anyone watch the Grammys anymore? I know it was the 50th, which is a big deal. But there were only probably 2 (okay, maybe 3 if you count seeing what Amy Winehouse was going to do over the satellite feed) things that were worth watching:

1. Tina freakin' Turner.
2. Morris Day and The freakin' Time.

That is all.

But, if you did lay down some money, here's what you would've won last night:

Song Of The Year: Rehab - Amy Winehouse (9/4): If you had laid down $4, you won $9 plus your original $4, which isn't bad at all. The odds had tipped at the last minute to Carrie Underwood's Before He Cheats at 1/3, which wouldn't have been much of a winner.

Album Of The Year: River: The Joni Letters - Herbie Hancock (6/1): This was the big shocker of the night, because the Grammy voters are known for being more pop-centric than they are for being jazz fans. But for every dollar, you won $6 plus your dollar back, which if you were feeling more ballsy, could've gotten you a couple hundred bucks.

Record Of The Year: Rehab - Amy Winehouse (5/2): For every $2, you won $5 and your $2 back, which is decent considering that Rhianna was the favorite at 20/21. Really, it was just a shame that Amy wasn't actually there to accept any of the awards she won. Bad TV, people.

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: Rehab - Amy Winehouse (5/9): This was one of those odds where she was the favorite, so the odds weren't really the kind of numbers that helped you win anything. For every $9 you bet, you won $5 and your $9 back, so it really wasn't much of a moneymaker.

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance: What Goes Around...Comes Around - Justin Timberlake (1/4): Justin really was the favorite, and for every $4 you bet, you won $1, which isn't that much to win. No one else in this category came close, though with Herbie Hancock winning for Album Of The Year, it kinda left things open for Michael Bublé or John Mayer, both favorites of Grammy voters.

Best Rock Album: Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace - Foo Fighters (4/13): This one really wasn't all that difficult to predict (though Daughtry did have a little bit of a shot, just because he's a fan favorite. But for some reason, any year the Foo Fighters release a record, they win Grammys. For every $13, you won $4-- not a great investment or big win.

Best R&B Album: Funk This - Chaka Khan (17/4): This was the only other surprise winner of the night, if only because Jill Scott was the favorite at 1/3. For every $4 bet, you won $17, which is a nice chunk of change if you bet more than $4. And, yay Chaka! I love her.

Best Rap Album: Graduation - Kanye West (1/9): Yeah, I pretty much said it in the guide: his odds didn't win much for you, just because this album was just a monster. For every $9, you won $1, so it was a matter of a lot of investment for not much return. You'd get your $9 back, but to only win $1 on top of it is not so bueno.

Best Country Album: These Days - Vince Gill (1/4): Vince was the favorite in this category, and is a Grammy voter favorite. For every $4, you won $1, so again it was a small investment for an even smaller return.

Awards season means betting guides!

Coming next week our Grammy Betting Guide will be up with the usual fanfare and snark. And also be on the lookout for our Golden Globes guide as soon as the odds are out for those. It's going to be busy for us in the new year!

Though I'm not going to lie, two of my favorite actors are nominated for Best Actor: James McAvoy and Viggo Mortensen. Man, that Golden Globes is going to be a hard show to watch. And, of course, how could I not include the eye candy in my post?

The trailer for Atonement, with James McAvoy:

And the trailer for Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen:

So hard to choose, right?

It's Grammy time again, y'all.

When I heard about the Grammy nominations being announced yesterday, I didn't think it was real, because it feels like we just had another Grammy show. But maybe that's just because most of the nominees have been all over the gossip columns this past year, and it just feels like we're going to be having another, um, unforgettable night of, you know, things.

But stay tuned here for our annual Grammy betting guide. It'll be the highlight of the winter, I swear.

Amy Winehouse grabbed 6 nominations, which means that she'll get some decent odds when they come out (probably next week). Just in case you missed it the first time, here's to hoping she'll be performing at the Grammys, just like this:

Beyoncé only got nominated for Record Of The Year this year, so in her honor, I'm posing her little spill:

And the most nominations went to Kanye West, who personally I'm not sure if I like anymore. It's like, he acts like a jerk, then whines about not getting recognition, then expects people to forgive him by putting out a record that the critics love. You can't have it both ways, dude. But, maybe he'll tone down a little now that his mom's gone. Who knows. Here's his funny video for Can't Tell Me Nothing, in which he's not even in:

2007 Grammys wrap up!

Well, another year has come and gone, and more Grammy performances have been etched into the books. At least, I make it sound like it was that much of a momentus occasion, but really, we all just wanted to see The Police, right? You're going to see them when they come to town, right? I know I am when they come to Vegas.

The Dixie Chicks pulled out a sweep this year. Like, wow.

Anyway, here's your wrap up on the winners. How did you do this year?

Album of the Year
Taking The Long Way - Dixie Chicks (7/3): You know, with these odds, you could've done pretty well for yourself. A lot of talk today is about whether their win was because the voters thought they deserved it, or if it really was a giant political statement from the record industry. I think it was a little bit of both.

Best Alternative Music Album
St. Elsewhere - Gnarls Barkley (11/9): While I personally thought Thom Yorke was more deserving, they took the award. Even if the industry hated what Dangermouse did with The Gray Album. Was is deserved? If you look at it from the prospective that it's a reall eclectic album that doesn't really have a niche, then yes.

Best Country Album
Taking The Long Way - Dixie Chicks (11/9): I said they might take it because of infamy, and they did. Maybe the voters were put off by Willie Nelson's drug bust last year and didn't vote for him?

Best Pop Vocal Album
Continuum - John Mayer (7/3): Despite his crappy odds, and being up against powerhouse pop albums, he quietly took the award, and dodged the Jessica Simpson question by speaking Japanese. Well played, sir. Well played.

Best Rap Album
Release Therapy - Ludacris (7/3): Now the question is: was this vote also a political statement? Do you seriously think the industry was really out to stick a big finger up to Bill O'Reilly and Oprah?

Best R&B Album
The Breakthrough - Mary J. Blige (11/9): I read a comment the other day that was something along the lines of "We know you've been messed up, and I think we're over it now. Can we move on?" Which I kinda agree with. I mean, I love me some Mary, but I think we're ready to move on.

Best Rock Album
Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers (11/9): I said it before, and I'll say it again: thank God it wasn't U2. Seriously.

You Only WISH You Had My Posse

You may or may not believe this, but I never travel without my entrouage. When I roll out of my pad in the morning, at a MINIMUM I have my stylist ('cause somebody needs to tell me how to match my jeans and t-shirt), two "bodyguards" and at least three hangers-on for appearance. Sometimes my "business manager" rolls with me, too. It makes me feel important and it lets the world know that I'm worthy of having people follow me for no reason other than that I'm really super cool.

I might consider letting you join my posse if you ask nicely. For real.

Anyway, you know who else never travels without a posse? Musicians. And you know where they like to bring their posse? To the Grammy Awards. And then, when those musicians win a Grammy Award, they like to invite their entire posse on stage to accept the award with them. That posse may or may not have had anything to do with the actual success of the record that just won the Grammy, but they make that artist look really cool. I mean, that musician MUST be popular if all of those people want to ride in his limo to the Grammy's and hang with him all night, right?

At Bodog right now, you can actually throw money down on how many people will be on stage at one time when the largest posse of the night cruises up to accept an award. You can get over 11.5 people at -120 and under 11.5 people at -120. And no, I don't know what a half person is, unless we're counting Mini Me.

Click here to bet on the craziest Grammy entourage or to see the odds on ALL the Grammy nominees for this weekend.

Applications for my posse now being taken.

Grammys Recap...

Let's face it, you were probably more enthralled with American Idol last night-- it's the first Hollywood show, people-- than with actually watching the Grammys. But did you make any money backing the U2 train? Here's how the odds went down:

Record of the Year
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day (3/2): Green Day was bound to win something this year, and this was probably the one to get for them. You came out pretty good on this one, even if they were a hedge bet.

Album of the Year
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - U2 (1/1): You doubled up on this one.

Song of the Year
Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own - U2 (4/1): This came out of nowhere. Really. If this was a serious hedge bet for you, you got serious money.

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson (3/2): There would've been something seriously wrong with the Academy if she didn't take this home. And, you know, it's kinda cool that an Idol took it all the way to the top.

Best Rock Album
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - U2 (5/4): U2 just surprised everybody last night. Bono can stop being a megalomaniac now. And you got a nice chunk from this one.

Best Rock Song
City of Blinding Lights - U2 (5/1): I don't even remember this song. But maybe the Academy felt bad about the whole Nobel Peace Prize snub. Like they need more awards. But 5 times your cash on top of what you bet? $20=$120 right there.

Best Rap Album
Late Registration - Kanye West (1/3): Even just a little win is a little win.

Best Rap Song
Diamonds from Sierra Leone - Kanye West (1/1): Another double-up. Who's got the bigger ego: Kanye or Bono? Discuss.

Best R&B Song
We Belong Together - Mariah Carey (1/1): How long has it been since Mariah won? 16 years or something? She doubled you up here.

Best Country Song
Bless the Broken Road - Rascal Flatts (1/1): This was pretty predicable as well. Pretty boys win. And you double up.
